Run To The Rose

The Run To The Rose is an exciting little race on the Australian racing calendar which falls in a very important time slot for the industry. It’s the final stakes event of August meaning it sets the scene for the beginning of the big racing action which sweeps across New South Wales and Victoria  in the months to follow.

The Run To The Ruse is a Group 3 rated event held at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney. It’s a three year old only event and is contested under set weight conditions making it a true battle of ability.

The race itself is a journey of 1200m with $125,000 in prize money on offer to the winning connections. As the name suggests, this is a lead up race towards bigger and better things later in the carnival. The Group 1 Golden Rose is also run at Rosehill later in the carnival, that event worth $1 million. In fact the Golden Rose is the richest and most attractive event held during the spring racing carnival in Sydney.

There hasn’t been a very long history between the Run To The Rose and the eventual Group 1 final however in 2009 Denman made short work of it winning the double in fine style. In 2010 Squamosa looked like doing the same after winning the Run To The Rose but he couldn’t quite get the job done finishing second in the major.

The Run To The Rose has only been around since 2003 with the inaugural winner being Gilded Youth.

The fastest time so far for the event belongs to El Cambio which ran 1:16.2 in 2007.
