2011 Run To The Rose Form Guide

August 25th, 2011

The 2011 Run To The Rose will jump this Saturday at Rosehill Gardens and there are a few very smart types lurking in the field.

All eyes are on the two returning stars in Helmet and Smart Missile.

One of them is a dual group 1 winner while the other was scratched at the stalls in the Golden Slipper and denied his shot at a maiden group 1.

That’s what makes this such an interesting matchup and that’s why the 2011 Run To The Rose is a real punters race.

It’s not a race in two though and if you examine the Run To The Rose form guide below you’ll see there’s a couple of others well in the mix.

The likes of first up winner Foxwedge and the speedy Karuta Queen will both give a sight at some stage with four other runners also hoping to prove they are of Golden Rose standard.

2011 Run To The Rose Form Guide

Helmet

He’s won four of five races and tow of those have been at Group 1 level. Amazingly he managed to win those as one of the most immature two year olds around, he has plenty of improvement to come and if he gets it right he could well become better than Sepoy.  On his day he wins this race but if he’s not right anything could happen.

Smart Missile

He won’t mind the sting out of the track and he won’t mind getting back from barrier eight. A quick early tempo will really bring him into it and he’ll be fastest over the final furlong. Anthony Cummings says he won’t be beat, we think that may well be the case too.

Foxwedge

He looks like he might be nearly ready to challenge these top guns on the back of a great last start win. From barrier one he’ll pick up the run of the race and Corey Brown will give him every hope. If the top two don’t come back fit enough this may well be your winner.

Diamond To Pegasus

Wasn’t quite with them last season and so far this season he’s only been steady. Might still take some improvement from his last run but really needs them to be having an off day.

Boys On Tour

A real improver and maybe a smokey should everything go his way. On pure class he’s not with them but he works well and battles home, exotic contender.

Flight Of Pegasus

Lightly raced but unsuited to the 1200m. This is a test to see if he could become Golden Rose quality and he’s not expected to win, just hit the line hard. Hang off him for this one but watch him closely, over the 1400m it could be a different story.

Mashkoor

He only debuted this season at Canterbury in a maiden and was beaten comfortably by over two lengths. To be a player he’ll need to pick up at least two seconds over his final 600m and that’s not taking into account any improvement from the top ones here.

Karuta Queen

If she gets her own way out in front she may well make things interesting. Tactics have been a bit off with her in the Golden Slipper and last start, she really doesn’t need to be pushed so hard. It could be even better if she took a  sit but who knows what’s going through the mind of trainer Neville Layt.
