Missile Explodes To 2011 Run To The Rose Victory

August 29th, 2011

It took one of the best finishes in recent memory but Smart Missile has won the 2011 Run To The Rose ahead of Foxwedge and Helmet.

He looked to have plenty of work in front of him at the top of the straight and with 100m to go he looked no chance of reeling in the front runners.

Amazingly though in the last 50m he picked up a full length to snatch victory form Foxwedge on the line and leave many punters breathing a sigh of relief.

When they jumped it was Karuta Queen out in front with Foxwedge settling in third, Helmet in fifth and Smart Missile at the back.

As they rounded the bend Karuta Queen opened up a big lead and she was still in front with 200m to go.

Foxwedge was always making up ground though and he claimed her inside the final 200m and for all money was the winner.

In the meantime Helmet had worked clear and was running next to Smart Missile which took the extreme outside.

The two matched each other right to the final 100m but it was an explosion of speed not seen by any horse this season which got Smart Missile there first.

Foxwedge was unlucky in second with Helmet working well into third ahead of Karuta Queen.

There’s no doubt Smart Missile will be the favourite for the Golden Rose now given the manner of his win and the fact he had to work so much harder than Foxwedge in running.

Improvement could come from Helmet though as he ran well but his mental maturity still isn’t anywhere where it needs to be.
