The Run To The Rose 2013 – Final Field & Barrier Draw

August 29th, 2013

The final field and barrier draw has been released for the Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1200m) that will be run at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.

As expected the race will be a key form guide for the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m), to be run at the same venue on September 14, with a number of the leading contenders for the $1 million event set to clash on Saturday.

Darley colt Sidestep will be looking to bounce back from his unlucky effort in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m), where significant interference at the 300 metre mark caused him to lose significant ground and ended any chance he had of winning the race.

The son of Exceed And Excel has been considered a leading Golden Rose chance since he finished second behind Overreach in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) earlier this year and trainer Peter Snowden is hopeful that he can record his second career victory on Saturday.

Team Cummings-trained Eurozone will defend his unbeaten record in the Run To The Rose this weekend but will face much tougher competition than he has previously met during his racing career.

The son of Northern Meteor stepped up in class to win the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick on August 10 but will need to improve again when he faces the likes of Sidestep this weekend.

Chris Waller-trained Zoustar has been well backed in the 2013 Golden Rose betting market this week and will return to the races for the first time since his impressive 2013 Brisbane Winter Carnival campaign on Saturday.

Zoustar scored an impressive victory in the Group 2 BRC Sires Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 25 and finished an unlucky second behind Romantic Touch in the Group 1 J.J. Atikins (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 8.

Other leading Golden Rose contenders set to contest The Run To The Rose are: the lightly-raced Ike’s Legacy, Todman Stakes winner Criterion, Gai Waterhouse-trained Marseille Roulette and classy maiden Cluster.
