Inkling May Contest 2014 Run To The Rose

July 28th, 2014

Returning to the winner’s circle with a near-two length triumph in the TAB Early Quaddie Handicap (1150m) at Randwick-Kensington over the weekend, trainer Peter Snowden has revealed rising two-year-old Inking will contest the Listed Rosebud (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 9th before a possible progression to the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) a fortnight later.

Initially underlining the featured Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 13th as the major target for the exciting colt this preparation, a less-than-convincing performance for third three weeks ago forced Snowden to reconsider a path for Inkling through spring, with the traditional lead-up now figuring as an indicator.

Never appearing in doubt in his most recent performance, Snowden said the Rosebud will figure as the next point of call for the rising three-year-old, will results to dictate the path from there-on-in.

“I left a bit in the tank because he’s been in work a little while and I’m mindful of how long I want to keep him up,” Snowden said after the TAB Early Quaddie Handicap.

“He’s had a good blow and that’s good for me, I can screw him down in the next couple of weeks for his target race, the Rosebud in a fortnight.

“We’ll wait for the Rosebud and see what happens there. For mine I’m thinking give him a bit of a break and come in for the back end of the spring carnival in Melbourne.”

Strolling home to win the More Than Ready Plate (1100m) by close to six lengths on debut on June 18th, Inkling was unable to overcome an awkward jump when third in a minor event over 1200 metres on July 5th, but returned to impressive form in his most recent tilt.

Yet to appear in early betting markets for major events at the conclusion of the Melbourne racing Calendar, Inkling is currently available at generous odds of $34 for success in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes.
