El Divino is poised for a big Spring Carnival preparation and has been included in 2016 The Run To The Rose nominations b   y trainer Gai Waterhouse.

A half-brother to champion mare Winx, El Divino immediately stamped himself as a colt to follow when winning the More Than Just Winning Maiden (1000m) by more than five lengths on debut in March.

Producing a slick turn of foot to finish in a dead heat with fellow Run To The Rose nominee Astern in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) on April 2nd, the Snitzel colt has trialled well in the lead-up to his competitive return.

Astern debuted to racing for a comfortable win in the Surf Meets Turf 2.y.o Plate (1000m) on December 5th but was returned to the paddock with a view towards major autumn targets.

Resuming this year for an impressive first-up win in the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m), the Medaglia D’Oro colt failed to make anything of an impression when eleventh in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), but more than atoned in the Kindergarten Stakes most recently.

Godolphin are set to dominate the Run To The Rose field after trainer John O’Shea also included Impending, Telperion and Tessera in nominations.

Star Turn returned to racing for an impressive win in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1100m) a fortnight ago, and has been included in The Run To The Rose nominations.

Trialling well in the lead-up to his competitive debut, Star Turn ran a credible third in the Kirkham Plate (1000m) before taking out the Pierro Plate (1100m) a fortnight later.

Running second in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude C&G (1100m) on February 13th, Star Turn ran fifth in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) before ending his campaign sixth in the Golden Slipper.

A black type field in Sydney wouldn’t be complete without a Chris Waller-trained runner, and the leading trainer has included both Cellarman and Nikitas in 2016 The Run To The Rose nominations.

The 2016 Run To The Rose field will be completed and released by midday, Wednesday (August 24th).
