El Divino Tough to Beat in Run To The Rose 2016

August 24th, 2016

Trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident that talented three-year-old El Divino will prove extremely tough to beat, when he lines up for the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

El Divino has made only two competitive appearances through his short career so far but has more than stamped himself as a colt to follow and enters the 2016 Run To The Rose first-up undefeated.

A half-brother to champion mare Winx, out of star broodmare Vegas Showgirl, Waterhouse rates El Divino amongst the best three-year-olds she has trained and is confident he will lay a typically-strong account for himself in The Run To The Rose 2016.

“It’s all been about his sisters this week which is nice but now’s El Divino’s time to shine,” Waterhouse told Racenet.

“She’s (Vegas Showgirl) obviously an outstanding broodmare.

“I’ve got the brother who we brought at Easter. He’s an exceptional type, totally different to El Divino, they’re very different types of horses.

“I think he’s outstanding as simple as that. I’ve had a few outstanding colts so I know what I’m talking about.

“He’s right there with the top three-year-old colts I’ve had in the past.

“He fills the eye and does everything you could ask of him. I think he goes into Saturday’s race with great chance.

“He’s a very good colt.”

Trialling particularly well in the lead-up to his competitive debut, El Divino justified his resounding attention and favouritism when putting away a field of seven by more than five lengths in the More Than Just Winning Maiden (1000m) at Gosford on March 17th.

Jumping from the gates well in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) on Day 1 of The Championships, the Snitzel colt locked in a fierce sprint battle in the race’s dying stages with Godolphin colt Astern; finishing in a dead heat.

The 2016 Run To The Rose field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
